Sumary of Vegan textile made from khaki emerges as an alternative to replace animal leather:
- The Spanish agri-food company, Laserfood, based in Valencia, has presented the first vegan textile substitute for animal and synthetic leather made from 100% natural products from surplus persimmon, in which it will invest two million euros for its production.
- The president of Denominación de Origen Kaki Ribera del Xúquer, Cirilo Arnandis, highlights that this project can offer “an interesting outlet” for part of the production that, due to market reasons, is not sold or does not reach the industrial transformation circuit for obtaining juices and other derivatives.
- Likewise, Arnandis emphasizes that the use of persimmon residues can represent an additional source of income, complementing the main revenue from in natura commercialization, helping the sustainability of the sector and improving the income of producers.
- In 2006 Laserfood developed the Laser Mark project to identify fruits using lasers, demonstrating that the use of this new technology has reduced the carbon footprint due to the use of labels by 99.9%.
